Old English Sheepdogs - General Care Information
Old English Sheepdogs are working dogs, and they require much exercise. They are not appropriate for apartment style living, and they need open areas to run freely and safely. Bobtail owners should be aware that this breed would be fairly active indoors depending on the individual dog. Typically they will live to be ten to twelve years old. It should also be noted that this breed does not do well in warm climates because of their heavy coat.
In order to maintain good condition in your dog's coat, you need to devote sufficient time to grooming. The Old English Sheepdog has a coarse, long coat that needs constant care. The coat tends to become matted and there is a risk that your pet will develop some skin problems, if the coat is not paid attention to. The Bobtail owner is recommended to comb and brush the dog's coat on a regular basis.
If you do not show your Old English Sheepdog, the coat may be machine-clipped every two months. Old English Sheepdogs shed in the spring.

Old English Sheepdogs are even-tempered and loving creatures that love children and make loyal and protective family friends. These dogs are playful and active, remaining energetic and clownish well into their older age. Old English Sheepdogs always want to be close with their family, and they have a strong herding instinct.
